“Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan’s movie about the development of the atomic bomb, on Thursday received the highest number of nominations for this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards, known as the BAFTAs. CNN —Veteran British broadcaster Michael Parkinson has died at the age of 88, his former employer the BBC reported Thursday, citing a statement from his family. “After a brief illness Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family,” the statement said, according to the BBC. GDANSK, June 14 (Reuters) - Polish video game producer 11 bit studios (11B.WA) plans to release Frostpunk 2, the sequel to its BAFTA-nominated society survival game, in the first half of 2024, company representatives said at an investor conference on Wednesday. Frostpunk 2 is currently ranked eighth on the Global Top Wishlists on video game platform Steam. In the coming year, 11 bit studios plans to focus on games rather than operational changes and acquisitions. The release of "The Invincible", a title developed by Starward Industries, whose shares were acquired by 11 bit studios last year, is planned for the third or fourth quarter. At 1051 GMT, 11 bit studios' shares were up 7.8%.

Sakamoto was also known for his work with the pioneering electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) which he co-founded. Embracing electronic music, he and fellow studio musicians Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi formed YMO in 1978. His most celebrated work was 1987's "The Last Emperor" - a film in which he also acted.

It is the first German-language adaptation of a 1928 novel by Erich Maria Remarque, which was also made into a best picture-winning film in 1930. The film was nominated in nine categories this year, including best picture. "All Quiet on the Western Front" beat out international film nominees "EO" from Poland, "The Quiet Girl," from Ireland; Belgian film "Close;" and "Argentina, 1985" from Argentina.
